Code-Compliant Pool Fences That Protect Your Family in Miami
A pool fence isn’t just another fence, in Florida it’s a legal safety requirement, and it has to pass inspection before you can use your pool. South Florida Fabrication & Fencing has installed pool barriers across Miami-Dade for over 20 years. We know the Florida Residential Swimming Pool Safety Act requirements inside and out, and we build fences that meet them without making your backyard feel like a cage.
Most of our pool fences are powder-coated aluminum, rust-proof, low-maintenance, and available in styles that satisfy the code while still looking great, but we also install pool-compliant vinyl and custom-fabricated options.
What Florida Pool Barrier Law Requires
Florida Statute Chapter 515 (the Residential Swimming Pool Safety Act) sets the baseline for pool barriers around residential pools. In general terms, a compliant barrier must:
- Be at least 4 feet high, measured on the outside of the barrier
- Have no gaps, openings, or handholds/footholds that would let a young child climb over or squeeze through
- Be placed far enough from the pool edge to prevent a child from immediately falling in after getting past it
- Use gates that are self-closing and self-latching, opening outward away from the pool, with the latch mounted out of a small child’s reach
- Not use the home’s walls as part of the barrier unless doors are protected by approved alarms or other approved measures
Local Miami-Dade requirements and inspectors may add specifics. We design every pool fence to meet the applicable requirements and we handle the permit so the final inspection goes smoothly. (This is a general summary, not legal advice, we’ll confirm the exact requirements for your property during your estimate.)
Pool Fence Materials & Styles
- Aluminum pool fence, the Miami standard: rust-proof, elegant, and available in flat-top and spear-top styles with code-compliant picket spacing
- Vinyl pool fence, solid or picket styles for homeowners who want privacy around the pool as well as safety
- Custom fabricated, matching an existing fence line, unusual layouts, or a specific design from our in-house shop
- Self-closing, self-latching gates, the gate hardware is where most pool fences fail inspection; we install and adjust it correctly
Why Aluminum for Pool Fencing
Pool areas are wet, chlorinated, and often close to salt air. Steel rusts, wood rots, and both need constant upkeep in that environment. Powder-coated aluminum shrugs it all off, no rust, no painting, no warping, and its open picket design keeps your pool visible and your yard feeling open. It’s why aluminum accounts for the majority of the pool fences we install in Miami.
Pool Fences for Homes, Condos & Commercial Pools
We install pool barriers for single-family homes, townhomes, condo and HOA community pools, hotels, and apartment complexes. Commercial and community pools fall under additional Florida Building Code and health department requirements; we fabricate and install to those standards and coordinate with property managers on scheduling and inspections. We also install pool deck railings and handrails as part of a complete pool safety package.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a pool fence if I have a screen enclosure?
Screen enclosures can serve as a barrier only if they meet the same height, gate, and climbability requirements. Many don’t, especially around doors from the house. We’ll evaluate your setup and tell you what’s needed.
Can a pool fence be removed?
Some clients want a removable mesh pool fence for flexibility. We’re happy to discuss whether that suits your situation versus a permanent aluminum barrier, which most Miami homeowners prefer for durability and appearance.
How quickly can you install?
Once the permit is approved, most residential pool fences are installed in one to two days.
